Similar to discs found in vehicles, discs in the human body play the role of a shock absorber between the vertebrae in the human body. As we age over time, the disc in the body could wear out and suffer from injuries like breaking open, the outer shell tearing apart, and expelling the gel within the disc.
Herniated discs occur in the cervical (neck area) spine, and lumbar (lower back) and they can break out at any point of the human spine. When this occurs, it causes chronic pain, weakness, and numbness if they rest against nerves in the body.
Bulging discs can push against the nerve roots and spinal cords, causing severe pains and problems with overall mobility.
